All I want for Christmas is a gingerbread stately home

Dec 17, 2016
The National Trust is in a festive mood as evidenced by a grandiose gingerbread replica of its own Waddesdon Manor. The Neo-Renaissance country estate, which was built for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, sits in Buckinghamshire and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year to admire its extravagant architecture. You'll likely recognise the house, thanks to its starring roles in The Queen and Downton Abbey. Waddesdon has been recreated by Biscuiteers, the hand-iced biscuit company, and includes famous rooms paintings, furniture, porcelain and textiles. Using more than 30kg of butter and sugar, 240 eggs and 216 kg of icing, it took 500 hours to make. The 2-metre long gingerbread confection gives visitors a whole new reason to visit the estate. Dressed to impress The manor has been transformed into a spectacular palace for Christmas. Discover Magical Materials themed decorated rooms, inspired by the rare and exotic pieces in Waddesdon's collection - glass, porcelain, precious metals and minerals. The edible model is on display in the Coach House Gallery until 2nd January and is free with a grounds ticket to the property.
