Chiswick homeowners liven up one W4 property by turning their Oxford Road South garden shed into a work of art.
This Chiswick camouflage shed was a private commission assigned to design consultant Zoe Hewett. Locals Gavin and Chrissie Power honed their passion for sheds on a previous outhouse, an art-deco style copper and stainless steel creation.
“This time we wanted something to blend in with our W4 garden and gave Zoe the job. She has already painted several items of furniture for us and is a very talented young lady. Our neighbours thought our last shed was unusual so they knew we wouldn’t do anything boring.
"The camouflage idea was inspired by WWII warships and has transformed a run-of-the-mill object into a very fine shed. We are really pleased with it.”
Hewett has a scenic art and design background and is now an interior designer: “Gavin and Chrissy gave me free reign to transform their brand new shed from a big wooden box.”
Chiswick sheddies
The Powers are committed sheddies but have some way to go to come close to the UKs sheddie supremo, web developer Andrew Wilcox, the brains behind We Heart Sheds. He’s ‘known on the interwebs as someone who likes the odd shed or two’, and defines the attributes of his own shed as: chair, electricity, radio, dog.
Wilcox launched the
Shed of the Year competition which has now gone global, and looks for passion and effort, as much as architectural merit and quality of build.
