Britannia Way, Moore Park Estate, Fulham, London, SW6

Dec 6, 2011
Britannia Way is situated in the locality of Moore Park Estate, within the area of Fulham. The name Moore Park is first mentioned in 1857, and is derived from the home of the estate owner J.Percival Maxwell, who lived at Moore Park in County Waterford, Ireland. The residential area within the conservation area is largely contained within two major arterial routes, both of which have a long history. The northern route, Fulham Road, was established in 1442 and contemporary records describe it as 'the King's highway' between the High Street and Walham Green. Later, the road became a major thoroughfare, being a coaching route to Guildford, Southampton, Portsmouth and Chichester. It was not officially known as the Fulham Road until 1870.
