May 24, 2014

Sales of BBQs were up 84% on 2013, showing people across the UK have an insatiable appetite for summer living. Although you can't rely on the weather, rather than cancel outdoor activities, we are are now more prepared for all weather eventualities. From chimineas*, pop-up gazebos and patio heaters to lanterns and solar lights, people are using accessories to keep their outdoor party going strong, come rain or shine. When it comes to outdoor cooking Brits prefer the easy option. For example, seven out of ten BBQs sold at one of the 32 Dobbies Garden Centres, are gas powered rather than charcoal. And mostly, it’s men who make the decision about which model to buy. Outdoor trends The firm is reporting rocketing sales are up following an inspirational Chelsea Flower Show. The past few months have seen fairly average Spring weather, but sales of outdoor heating is almost double (49%) what it was this time last year. Solar lighting is also popular for extending entertaining after dark. This underlines the trend for putting as much effort into creating outdoor as indoor well as indoor living spaces.
