Bromfelde Road is a popular residential street within the area of
Clapham, known as
Clapham North.
In 1086 the village had a population of just 100, but began to grow significantly in the late 17th century when refugees arrived from the
Great Plague of London in 1665 and fire in 1666.
In the late 18th century Clapham became a fashionable place for the wealthy to live as it was close to the amenities of London yet in a rural setting.
After the coming of the railways Clapham developed as a commuter suburb and by 1900 had lost favour with the upper classes.
