Ten million spectators are likely to flock to London for the 2012 Olympic Games, creating the potential for pandemonium on the roads.
With this in mind, Transport for London has written to Chiswick residents, to reveal planned road changes in and around W4.
The proposed route changes in Hounslow aim to facilitate movement between Earls Court, Heathrow Airport, Olympic Park and the River Zone area. The following road changes will operate between mid July to mid September 2012:
- Offside Games Lanes on part of the A4 (currently 6.00 am – 7.00 pm) which could mean extra queues and delays
- Banned right turn into Sutton Court Road from the A4 where general traffic will be required to use alternative routes
- A lane for Games Family vehicles on the M4 from junction 3 eastbound, causing extra queues and delays
- Banned right turn into Netheravon Road where general traffic will be required to use alternative routes.
These changes will form part of the Olympic Route Network (ORN), which will connect Games venues, media, officials and athletes accommodation. ORN roads will be open to general traffic and kept clear of obstructions such as road works.
A smaller version of the ORN will operate during the Paralympic Games (the Paralympic Route Network or PRN) when fewer venues will be in use.

Transport is vital to making the Games a success and the ORN is part of a multi-billion pound investment programme to improve public transport and the road network.
