Chiswick Mall is the modern name for the original village of Chiswick. Activity grew up around the church of St Nicholas and the river crossing, with fine houses interspersed with small cottages and several pubs.
Chiswick Mall provided river access to many of Chiswick’s businesses by way of the slipway which was in heavy use until the early 1900’s. The osiers on Chiswick Eyot were in great demand to make baskets, until the use of plastic packaging which meant that in past times the Mall would have been lined with basket makers as well as brewery activity that has taken place for over 300 years.
