Dec 6, 2011
Cortayne Road is situated in the locality of Hurlingham, within the area of Fulham. The Hurlingham private members club is located on the banks of the Thames and is famous for its leisure facilities and its 20 year waiting list. Facilities included Polo until the polo ground was compulsorily purchased after World War Two to build a running track. The opening meeting of the track was on 11th September 1954 which was the same date that the area became a public park. The park featured a 2500 capacity stadium which was demolished in 2002 and replaced with a substantial pavilion. The infield is a well maintained grass pitch and is used for either rugby union or football. The famous Monty Python sketch "The 127th Upper Class Twit of the Year Competition from Hurlingham Park" was filmed here in 1969.
