Did you know that bombs landed in Grove Park Gardens, Barrowgate Road and Chiswick High Road?
An interactive map showing the location of bombs dropped on London during World War II as been created. It shows the devastation caused by the Blitz over the eight months between October 1940 and June 1941.
Thirty six bombs were dropped in
Chiswick Homefields ward.
Seventy three bombs were dropped in
Chiswick Riverside ward.
Was your street affected by the blitz?
Just zoom in to specific streets on the map, which uses red dots to illustrate where each bomb landed.
Type in your street or postcode or explore the
index of London areas. The year-long project, called Bomb Sight, was devised by a team from the University of Portsmouth using data from the National Archives.
It is astonishing how London survived the onslaught, and illustrates the true meaning of the word Blitz, which comes from the German for lightning.
