Friday is a popular day to move house, except when it falls on the 13th.
Despite the fact that Friday is usually a popular day to move house, apparently it's all quiet on the moving front today.
June is traditionally the busiest month of the year for
removals with Friday being the most popular day, with many home movers taking a long weekend to sort out and settle into their new home. But today - Friday the 13th – is bucking the trend.
Research from MoveMe.com has found that the number of people booking to move today is lower than any other Friday in June. Clearly some people feel that moving house has enough stress built in, without the supernatural getting in the way.
The fear is so widespread there's even a name for it: paraskavedekatriaphobia.
Superstitious or paranoid?
If we manage to make it through today, there won't be another Friday 13th until February next year, followed by two more in March and November.
The British are not alone in being superstitious. Friday 13th is considered a day of bad luck in English, French and Portuguese speaking countries all around the world, plus a large number of other European countries.
However Dutch statisticians have established that Friday 13th is actually safer than an average Friday. A study published by the Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics showed that fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday than on other Fridays.
Maybe that’s because we prevent any mishaps by simply staying put.
