There are countless TV programmes, magazines and books dedicated to interior design; however, homeowners are turning to sitcoms, dramas and reality shows as a source of inspiration for their own homes.
- Over £3.5 million spent on furniture and interior design features from sitcoms, dramas and reality shows.
- Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from Sex & The City voted the greatest and most inspirational on-screen living space.
- The Norcross home from The Only Way is Essex revealed as the most expensive to replicate.
According to a survey by
MORE TH>N Home Insurance an estimated 4.6 million UK homeowners have been so taken with living spaces in sitcoms and dramas that they’ve spent thousands of pounds filling their own homes with identical furniture and design.
The survey sought to discover the degree to which iconic on-screen living spaces are influencing Britons’ homes. Fewer than 31 per cent of the 3,000 homeowners surveyed see TV shows as inspirational. Respondents spend an average of £3,836 each to emulate their favourite TV interior.
Manhatten to Peckham
The TV home held in the highest regard is Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment from
Sex & The City. Respondents spent over £530,000 on replicating the famous walk-in wardrobe (45 per cent), floor-to-ceiling bookcases (38 per cent), and flowing white curtains (30 per cent) seen in the chic Manhattan pad – more than any other on-screen living space.
Del Boy and Rodney’s Peckham pad from
Only Fools & Horses sits at the bottom of the table, only six per cent of respondents said they wanted a cocktail bar.
TV apartments that made the top 20 include Don Draper’s (Mad Men), Monica's (Friends), Sheldon’s (Big Bang Theory) and Frasier Crane’s (Frasier). And of course, Downton Abbey.
