Want to give your home a mini makeover this weekend? Choosing the right paint colour for your walls and paintwork has probably taken up all your time and attention, but how much paint do you need?
Getting the right amount of paint depends on a great many things, such as what colour you are covering up or how high the room is. This is not an exact science but here are some guidelines for painting your walls.
• bathroom or loo (approx 2m x 2m) 2.5 litres
• small to medium sized bedroom (4 x 4 m) 5 litres
• large bedroom or sitting room or kitchen (4m x 6m) 7.5 litres
• large living area or extended kitchen (6m x 8m) 10 litres
More helpful tips
• If you are painting over a dark colour with a much lighter one, it may require more coats.
• Rooms with high ceilings will need more paint for the walls. Sounds obvious, but it's an easy mistake to make.
• Fitted wardrobes, kitchen units and windows can reduce the amount of wall space to be painted, so take this into account when measuring up.
