Junk junkie wins 'Shed of the Year' with vintage design

Sep 5, 2024
A man has won a national shed award scheme with a design entirely made from scrap and repurposed materials.
Built as a potting shed/garden hideaway for his wife, Wayne Dawber’s aptly named creation, ‘Wrinkly, Rusty & Retro’, is Cuprinol’s Shed of the Year winner for 2024. He also won the public vote in the ‘Unexpected/Unique' award category, having been shortlisted from 160 entries.
Wayne Dawber: “The brief - a nice place for her to sit, out of the elements, reading or watching wildlife and a place to store her gardening stuff. As usual I became obsessive and got a little carried away with my ideas."
RUSTY, OLD AND WORN
“I used elements of all the things I love in the build, rusty metal, old wood, worn and flaky paint, vintage advertising, ghost signs and old junk. Everything in the build I scavenged from hard-to-come-by skip finds, junk shops, demolition sites or farms having a clear out. I’m addicted to old junk.
“I think it turned out ok in the end and I hope my neighbours feel the same way. The final cost was around £450.00.”
