Monthly Bird Walks at Dukes Meadows, Chiswick

Become a citizen scientist and help to monitor the birdlife at Dukes Meadows, Chiswick Riverside. Anyone can be involved, from experienced birdwatcher to enthusiastic beginner keen to learn.
Volunteers from the RSPB Central London Local Group and Dukes Meadows Trust, have conducted an initial survey and spotted an impressive total of 31 species.
The Trust aims to host regular monthly walks led by experienced RSPB volunteers. Attendees will soon start to pick up knowledge and recognise the different species and ID charts will be provided to help.
Walks will take in a variety of habitats. Woodland, scrub, grassland and meadows coexist alongside sports pitches, a playground, allotments and an orchard. The walk includes the banks of the River Thames, and ends at the Chiswick Food Market.
The initial survey included sightings of House Sparrows and a pair of Goldcrests. The variety of habitats, trees (deciduous and coniferous) and the proximity of the river resulted in a good number and variety of birds.

If you live locally and would like to register your interest in taking part in future bird surveys at Dukes Meadows email: admin@dukesmeadowstrust.org. The aim is for local participants to gain enough knowledge and experience from to be able to continue future surveys independently.
