Singer and Broadway star Ricky Martin recently revealed that the door of his apartment closed behind him, leaving him locked outside in his underwear with no keys to get back in.
Martin tweeted: “That awkward moment when you get locked out of you apt in your underwear and you have no other choice but to get in the elevator (at 8:15 in the morning - full of neighbors going to work) go to reception and ask for a copy of your key. Thats how my day started. I’m still laughing”
I’m sure his neighbours didn’t mind!
Consumer research shows that fifty one per cent of people have lost their keys, while eighty per cent of those surveyed found themselves locked out of their homes at least once or twice a year - clearly we need a solution.
If you're prone to losing your keys and think it's a good idea to hide a spare under a plant pot or doormat, think again. Instead, try wrapping the key in foil and burying it. Or you can opt for a new service called
SpareKeys to store and deliver another set to your home in the event of a lock out.
The firm promises to rescue customers within an hour. At a time when most of us don't know our neighbours, or live far from friends and family it does seem like a modern-day solution for any dude or damsel in distress.
However, getting to know and trust the people next door is still the most neighbourly solution. Aside from keeping our keys, we all need someone to sign for deliveries and push the junk mail through the door when we’re out.
