No marital home in Chiswick for William and Kate

May 3, 2011
Newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton - whose official titles are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – could not afford to buy a property in Chiswick - based on William’s RAF salary of £37,170. This is the couple’s only job-based income since Kate left her parents’ company earlier this year. The couple could afford a mortgage of £142,246, which could stretch to a ‘rebuilt mobile home’ in Windsor, a three-bedroom semi in St Andrews, or a parking space in Westminster. These could be likely locations for the royal marital home if they depended solely on their salaries and no royal allowances. Christian Harper, of London’s fixed fee estate agent OliverFinn: "If the couple opted for Chiswick, W4 they should expect to pay from £500,000 for a two bedroom ‘Just married’ terraced house. The average property price in W4 is just under £ £650,000." Here is the picture across London: •             For a 1 bedroom apartment in W4 they should expect to pay a minimum of £250,000 •             For a studio flat in Notting Hill Gate, W11 they would need to find from £275,000 •             The couple would have to fork out from £400,000 for a two bedroom house in Clapham, SW4 or SW8 •             In Westminster they could afford little more than a parking space close to Hyde Park. In fact William and Kate may need help from the bank of mum and dad in order to settle into married life anywhere in the UK as the national average property price is £153,100 according to Hometrack. Back in the real world, the newlyweds will apparently jet off to a secret hideaway in the Indian Ocean for their belated honeymoon after RAF search and rescue pilot William returns to work in Angelsey, North Wales, for three days.
