Olympic torch at Chiswick Pier

Aug 6, 2012
Hundreds of Chiswick residents lined the river bank at Chiswick Pier to witness the Olympic flame finished its journey down the Thames. The torch was carried on the royal barge Gloriana, on the last day of its 8,000 mile, 70-day journey round the UK. The procession involved 400 rowers on 90 boats. Seven young torchbearers took it in turns on Gloriana to carry a torch, lit from the cauldron, over the course of the morning. The flotilla passed through Teddington Lock, Richmond Riverside, Dukes Meadow, Putney Embankment. Battersea Bridge, South Bank and Tower Bridge. Over 13 million people in all lined the streets across the UK cheer on the torchbearers.
