Scents that bring festive warmth into the home

Nov 27, 2024
As a nation, we love to use aromas in the home to evoke memories and boost moods, especially at Christmas.
A third of British adults say splashing out on Christmassy home fragrances gets them in the Santa spirit, along with watching Yuletide classics such as Love Actually or The Snowman (64%) and eating mice pies (37%).
Almost one in three (31%) associate the warming smell of spices used in mulled wine with the festive season, ahead of roast turkey (27%) and sausages wrapped in bacon (18%), research by Mecca Bingo  reveals.
It's well known that scents can have a powerful impact on our emotions, in fact of those surveyed, over half (58%) say Christmassy scents make them feel joyful, whilst others said nostalgic (36%) or excited (18%). Exactly the feeling you would want as you welcome family and friends into your home.
- Mulled Wine: A warming blend of aromatic cinnamon, mixed with full-bodied red wine and a classic twist of citrusy orange.
- Putting Up the Christmas Tree: Forest fresh pine, cedar wood, rich scents of clove and the sweetness of orange peel.
- Pigs in Blankets: notes of sage, bacon and smoke.
Just like mince pies hitting the supermarket shelves, the festive smells of cinnamon, pine needles and pigs in blankets are a sure sign that the countdown to Christmas has begun.
