South Ealing, Ealing, London, W5

Dec 15, 2011
There has been a church on the site of St Mary’s Church for nearly a thousand years. The church had a large parish extending from Wembley to Chiswick and in the late 16th century recorded having only 427 inhabitants.  The church was destroyed during the civil war of 1644. A new simple Georgian church was erected  after the Great Plague and then opened on Trinity Sunday 1740. Due to an expanding population the church was hugely extended in 1866. The YMCA on St Mary’s Road established on June 6th 1844 was the birth of the first YMCA in Britain. South Ealing Cemetery was established by the Ealing and Old Brentford Burial Board in 1861 when space in the parish churchyard was running out. The cemetery was extended in 1907 and 1940. South Ealing is regarded as great value compared to some Ealing areas as it is a quiet residential area that enjoys the open spaces of Lammas and Walpole Parks and features the popular Little Ealing and Mount Carmel Primary Schools. South Ealing is located North of Little Ealing & Brentford, East of Northfields, South of Ealing Broadway and West of Gunnersbury.
