The 8 most common problems faced by home buyers

Have you experienced difficulties when buying a new home? Well, if so, it turns out you’re not the only one. According to new research, it’s rarely smooth sailing for most house hunters. An study of over 2,000 people revealed there are several common issues home buyers face, from delays in the chain to homes left in poor condition. The survey, by Which? Mortgage Advisers, focused on the experiences of those who had purchased a property in the previous two years. So, what are the biggest problems? On average two in three (66 per cent) home buyers were met with problems. Here are the most common issues:
  1. Delays caused by others in the chain – 19 per cent
  2. Difficulty in finding a suitable property – 18 per cent
  3. Property bought was left in poor condition or with unexpected furniture – 13 per cent
  4. Encountering problems on completion day – 12 per cent
  5. Problems getting a mortgage – 10 per cent
  6. Issues with removals company – 10 per cent
  7. Problems with the conveyancer – 8 per cent
  8. Difficulties with the surveyor – 7 per cent
The study previously found that three in 10 property purchases fall through, signifying the obstacles that are in the way for those looking to buy and sell property in the UK.
