Now that summer has finally arrived (sort of) our attention invariably turns to our gardens. A new survey has revealed the most popular garden features and the ones people most dream of owning. Of the 86% of people who do have access to a garden, a shed is the outdoor feature they are most likely to own.
More than half (60%) of people with a garden reveal they have a shed, whether they use it for potting plants, doing DIY or maybe something more adventurous like arts and crafts or working out. Patio and decking are popular outdoor fixtures (47%), as are outdoor dining table and chairs (38%), summerhouses (10%), trampolines (10%) and swings or climbing frames (9%).
However, things people dream of differs significantly from the things they own. According to the poll, conducted on behalf of OceanFinance.co.uk, a built-in barbecue is the feature people would most like to own (27%). Meanwhile, nearly a quarter (22%) of respondents aspire to own a hot tub. Other dream additions include a patio area (22%), soft seating (20%) and a swimming pool (20%).
While a built-in BBQ is the number one dream choice among male respondents (27%), for women taking part in the poll it is a summerhouse (29%). A BBQ is the second most-desired choice among female respondents (27%) followed by soft seating (27%). Meanwhile, the second choice of a quarter (23%) of men is also a summerhouse, but the third choice is a hot tub (21%).
Who knows, the built-in BBQ might see the traditional garden shed knocked off its perch to make way for some alfresco cooking.
