A recent survey of more than 600 Londoners asked which aspect of the home they’d most like to change. Just 8% of them chose their loft. But for all of the reasons they wanted a change, loft conversions are the best bet. Chiswick properties benefit from expanding into the loft, and not just in terms of value. Loft conversions can be effective and affordable.
When asked about their motivation to modify their home, 66% cited personal enjoyment. Translation: making their house into a home.
A loft conversion can transform a dormant loft space into a favourite room in the house. Better yet, it can be used for just about anything you can think of. Gone are the days of it being little more than an extra bedroom. Modern Londoners are thinking outside the box, creating noise-proofed music studios, meditation spaces, home offices and studies.
After personal enjoyment, the next motivating factor is the need for extra living space. With Chiswick house prices flying upwards at an alarming rate, families can’t simply pack their bags to find room for children and lifestyles. Instead, they’re being priced out of the housing market, and opting for home improvements.
Of course, space in London is already at a premium. For many who don’t have room for a home extension, the only way is up. Loft conversions help to expand the high quality living space available from a home; and they’re available for a fraction of the cost of moving house.

Simply Loft asked respondents what discourages them from making home improvements. They voted overwhelmingly for expense.
- Some 11% of participants said that inconvenience put them off making a change to their home.
- A further 9% said they didn’t have time but loft conversions.
When asked which home improvements they’d like to make if money were no object, Londoners chose a loft conversion, swimming pool, games room, home cinema, conservatory or gym. A loft conversion might not be a cloud-nine proposition compared to the rest of the wish list.
