At this time of year our gardens start to demand maintenance. This is often the trigger for a spring clean of the garden shed and to become reacquainted with our tools and garden possessions.
With the contents of an average garden shed worth over £600, it is no surprise that they can be attractive to thieves. Especially since one in ten of us admit to frequently leaving it unlocked.
In the unfortunate event that your possessions are stolen, they are far more likely to be recovered if registered on Immobilise. This is an online checking service used by UK Police forces to trace owners of lost and stolen property. Here are a few simple suggestions to deter thieves:
• Secure all garden tools that can be used to break into your home.
• Keep your shed locked with a padlock or mortice deadlock.
• Make sure your garden is secure by bolting gates and maintaining fences.
• Mark your property so it can be easily identified.
• Register your items on Immobilise for free.
About the Immobilise System
Immobilise is the world's largest FREE register of possession ownership details and together with its sister sites the Police's
NMPR (National Mobile Property Register) and
CheckMEND (used mobile phone and device history) and helps to reduce crime and repatriate recovered personal property to its rightful owners.
It is used by members of the public and by businesses to register their possessions or company assets, and ownership details are viewable on the Police national property database the NMPR. There are hundreds of cases a week where property is returned or information collected that assists the Police in investigating criminal activity involving stolen goods.
How is Immobilise funded?
Immobilise is provided to users free of charge and receives no central funding. It is primarily supported by revenue derived from sales of the products that are available to
mark your property.
The property registration service is operated by Recipero, which also operate several other services including Police systems such as the NMPR and the loss reporting system
ReportMyLoss.
Immobilise is accredited as an ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) 'Secured by Design' service. This is the official UK Police flagship initiative combining the principles of 'designing out crime' with physical security.
