What are these strange new boxes fixed to Chiswick lampposts?

Oct 8, 2016
Have you noticed a curious addition to a lamppost near you? Free and fun to participate, 'Beat the Street' encourages people young and old to run, walk and cycle as far as possible for six weeks. For the first time ever this physical activity game can be played in Chiswick. Special 'Beat Boxes' have appeared all over Chiswick across the dedicated routes where the game is being played. This is a real life walking, cycling and running challenge for the whole community, funded by London Borough of Hounslow map Here is a detailed map of around 25 Beat Boxes in the Chiswick area. To score points and win prizes players tap their registered Beat the Street card on Beat Boxes (located on lampposts all over W4) on their way to and from work, school and the shops. Players can pick up cards at their local libraries, GP surgeries or leisure centres and start tracking  journeys and receiving points. The competition is on until Wednesday 02 November 201 and the more Beat Boxes you tap, the further you travel and the greater your chance of winning a prize. Local schools, community groups and businesses are also able to form teams for BTS and be in with a chance of winning prizes if they walk, run or cycle the furthest.
  • Players can join teams by choosing from the list on the registration page.
  • There are lots of prizes up for grabs for individuals and teams taking part.
  • Players must be registered. Register here to play, see your score and be in with a chance to win prizes.
It’s fun, free and will inspire everyone to be active and healthy and get up and on their feet. Eat your heart out Pokémon GO!
