Hosting a party at home in Chiswick is a fun way of celebrating the New Year and after spending a pretty penny on Christmas, more households are looking to usher in 2013 at home.
However the perfect antidote to all the festive fun is a lovely stroll in the countryside and the closest thing we have to the countryside in West London is Kew Gardens. Fresh air, beautiful scenery and plant pondering and practically on our doorstep.
So grab some cosy clothes and a brolly and walk off December's overindulgence with a botanical New Year. If you get a little chilly, you can always head for one of the hot houses to defrost.
A natural gallery
David Nash, one of the UK’s most productive sculptors, is exhibiting his work at Kew Gardens until April 2013. The exhibition includes sculptures, installations, drawings and film.
From April to September 2012, Nash worked at Kew on a ‘wood quarry’, creating new pieces for the exhibition using trees from the Gardens that had come to the end of their natural life.
These
new works are on display in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, which is the hub for a series of these new works.
Video of The Wood Quarry, David Nash's outdoor studio, and the Cork Spire
installation at the Nash Conservatory beautifully complements the scale and elegance of the conservatory.
